The Adopt-A-Star program started in May 2000 and it quickly became quite popular. Unfortunately, exactly nine years later, we had to end the program because our volunteers could no longer keep up with the ever increasing number of adoption requests. We very much appreciate the donations that were made by each and every person who adopted a star. Together, all of you helped us to purchase a fine telescope that allows us to further our astronomy education efforts.
We are happy to announce that the Adopt-A-Star program will continue, albeit in a new form and under new management. Beginning in the third-quarter of 2010, the program will be offered by Astronomer 4 Hire with 25% of all proceeds being donated to the Big Sky Astronomical Society. In addition to this, a further 50% of all proceeds will go towards other astronomy education initiatives.
