Frequently Asked Questions

How do we get to the Big Sky Observatory (BSO) from Calgary?

Head southbound on Highway 2 (Deerfoot Trail) all the way to the Town of Nanton and then keep going another 20 kilometres or so. Then turn left (eastbound) on Highway 529 and go 20 kilometres until you reach the Twin Valley Dam and the Twin Valley Campground.
If we get lost can we contact you?

Yes, you can contact us via Twitter (@bigskyastro) or you can call us and/or text us at 403-973-STAR (7827).
Can we spend the night at the observatory?

No, the Big Sky Observatory is not open to the public all night long. Sometimes, in the summer, we are open until 1:00 AM. If you would like to stay longer, we suggest that you stay at the campground, which is conveniently located adjacent to the observatory. The Twin Valley Campground is open from late-spring to early-autumn and is operated by the County of Vulcan. Please contact them for more information regarding the campground.
